Rooftop attractions are becoming more and more popular, and it’s easy to see why- you get to have a good time and an even better view. While having a rooftop pool or garden is pretty cool, these places take it to the next level. Check out these major rooftop attractions all over the globe and how they transformed unwanted space into one of their cities biggest hot spots.
5Rooftop Trailer Park, South Africa
The Grand Daddy Hotel in Cape Town, South Africa is home to one of the hippest spots in the country- the Airstream Penthouse Park. Atop the hotel lies seven vintage Airstream trailers that local artists got creative with and turned into playful suites. Each trailer is unique and the hotel rents them out per night like rooms.
4Rooftop Cinema, Australia
Melbourne, Australia is home to one of the coolest theatres around- the Rooftop Cinema set atop a seven-story building. The theatre plays movies old and new, and comes equipped with a rooftop bar to enjoy during your film. You can sit in the astroturf or bring a lawn chair while you sit back and enjoy the show over city lights.
3Rooftop Playground, Denmark
In densely populated Copenhagen lies a child’s dream- a huge rooftop park. The park has grassy hills and play areas, as well as room to host an outdoor barbecue. And don’t worry, there’s a fence for the daredevil children that want to see how far up they are.
2Rooftop Tennis Court, Saudi Arabia
In Dubai a hotel roof hosts a giant, grassy area- that for one day was turned into a giant rooftop tennis court. Tennis champions Roger Federer and Andre Agassi played a match on this roof court in 2005. The grassy area is typically a helipad, at 692 feet above ground level, but, hey, if it can turned into a tennis court once, it can do it again, right?
1Rooftop Roller Coaster, Japan
In downtown Tokyo lies an unused roller coaster atop an eight-story outlet store. The U-shaped ride was never opened, apparently, due to structural problems with the building. But, the half-pipe coaster still sits there, taunting us with the desire to one day ride that awesome ride. This attraction is number on not just for it’s daredevil appeal, but also because it’s so dangerous no one’s ever ridden it- so how cool would it be to try?! Besides the inevitable collapse of the building or ride over the edge…
