Boosting your metabolism is one of the most effective strategies when trying to lose weight. It allows you to exercise less/eat more, and still lose weight. As we get older our metabolism naturally slows down, making weight gain more inevitable. These 5 tips will help boost your metabolism significantly.

1 Eat More Often

Eating more often is one of the best ways to speed up your metabolism. This starts with eating breakfast as soon as you wake up, and snacking every 2-3 hours throughout the day. This will mean eating 5-6 small meals in total every day.

2 Exercise

All forms of exercise will burn calories and raise your metabolism. Lifting weights is a powerful way to boost one’s metabolism, as it increases muscle mass. Muscle burns 73 more calories than fat every day.

3 Drink Water

German researches now suggest drinking 6 cups of water a day can increase a person’s metabolism, burning an additional 50 calories over a 24 hour period.

4 Sleep

Not getting enough sleep can result in cortisol (stress) levels to rise. High levels of cortisol can result in your metabolism slowing down. To prevent this, make sure you get 7-9 hours of sleep. Avoid stimulants such as caffeine drinks and sugar before bed time to prevent insomnia.

5 Eat Fish

A study published in the Nutrition and metabolism journal indicates that a diet high in omega-3s can boost your metabolism. Fish is also high in protein, aiding muscle growth. As previously mentioned, a higher level of muscle mass will increase your daily calorie expenditure.
