10-of-the-dirtiest-jobs-in-the-world-1

Almost everyone grumbles to themselves about how they hate their jobs when they’re rolling out of bed after sleeping for what always seems like two hours too short. This is true whether a person is a server at a diner or the regional manager of a national restaurant chain. Most people don’t consider, however, that there are far worse jobs that they could have. Some jobs are so terribly gross that most people would never consider taking them on. These ten jobs are disgusting, but somebody’s got to do them.

1 Roadkill Remover

Roadkill Coyote (2011)

Most people don’t take notice to the fact that it isn’t very often that they come across a dead animal in the road. Could this mean that only a few animals are dumb enough to take on an eighteen-wheeler? No. Several poor souls have the lovely job of scraping up any possum that isn’t playing.

2 Port-O-Potty Cleaner

tough job

Most people won’t even use a portable toilet unless they are at an all-day festival and have no other choice. These makeshift toilets aren’t disgusting when they’re first put out, and that’s because after a long day of hit-and-miss urine and fecal matter, these toilets are cleaned by professionals who really have a crappy job.

3 Guano Harvester

Bat

Guano is used in some fertilizers and is even a delicacy in some areas. Did we mention that guano is bat poop? Guano collectors go through caves that can house thousands of bats and collect their dung from the cave floor. They coincidentally leave this out of the Batman movie franchise.

4 Crime Scene Cleaner

Crime Scene

Ever wonder what happens after the ‘Law and Order’ detectives leave a murder scene? Crews of people who specialize in crime scene cleaning come through and remove all evidence of the crime. This includes blood, fecal matter, brain tissue and absolutely any other disgusting bodily substance one could imagine. This job actually brings several health risks which could include contracting deadly viruses and breathing in damaging drug toxins.

5 Esthetician

Spa Utopia Vancouver

Estheticians give people with money to blow beauty treatments like facials, waxing and other cosmetic treatments. These amazing treatments often involve removing puss from a person’s face. That’s right; they pop other people’s zits. Most people can’t even get their significant other to pop a pimple on their back, so hopefully these professionals are getting paid well.

6 Specialized Vomit Janitor

Kane Cleaning Supplies

Everyone that gets on a roller coaster knows going in that they are taking a chance. When they lessen their chances by eating a suspicious cheese stuffed sausage they found at a gas station before coming to the park, they create job security for certain janitors at the theme park. These parks can’t just let vomit sit under the roller coaster when someone can’t keep their lunch down, so they find someone who absolutely needs a job and lets them handle it.

7 Embalmer

Egyptian Antiquities - Embalmer's wooden tablets for identifying bodies during embalming. Hellenistic - Roman Period.

Yet another necessary job that people do not fully appreciate. Embalmers have to work with bodies that have already begun the decaying process on a daily basis. This involves removing bodily fluids, scrubbing the body down and then disinfecting it. Most people wouldn’t be caught dead in this job.

8 Sewage Cleaners

Emptying of a tank full with sewage by vacuum truck

Not many people wonder what happens to their waste once they flush it down the toilet. Sure it goes into the sewer in large cities, but these tunnels can’t possibly be large enough to contain every flushed toilet since the day they were created; something would have to get backed up, right? There are actually people who delve into these sewers to keep them as clean as possible. What? Did you think the Ninja Turtles handled this?

9 Slaughterhouse Worker

Few jobs are capable of making a person go vegetarian, but this one is. Slaughterhouse employees spend their day killing animals shortly before disemboweling them and sifting through the bloody parts. This is the price we pay for our McBurgers.

10 Hazmat Divers

Hazmat 2

Everyone has seen people in hazmat suits cleaning up possibly dangerous scenes on television, but they don’t quite understand how disgusting these jobs can get. There are people who will hide bodies in septic tanks and waste treatment facilities. It would be far too easy for these bodies to float, so divers actually have to submerge themselves in disgusting substances to fulfill their job duties. See what we did there? It sounded like we said ‘dooty’.

All too often there are necessary jobs that make everyday life possible that many people don’t know about. Employees in these positions often work behind the scenes before going home with no recognition that they just made the normal life of everyone else possible. According to Florida health care fraud lawyer, Robert Malove, if you are employee in any position that involves potentially unhealthy or life threatening tasks, it is important to know the rights offered to you in the event you are injured. The Florida health care fraud lawyer states that these employees should become familiar with the worker’s compensation policies of their local jurisdiction which can cover wage replacement and medical benefits.

These are some of the grossest jobs known to man, but unfortunately, they must be done. Maybe tomorrow you won’t grumble quite as much when the alarm goes off.
