DIY Theme Park – 8 Rides You (maybe) Can Make Yourself

attractions, DIY, entertainment

We all love the thrills of whizzing rollercoaster, the slippery speed of a waterslide or the romance of a Ferris wheel….but what’s the main problem with going to Disneyland, Universal Studios or Thorpe Park? They just cost so darn much! So, how do we get around this problem? Well, build our own rides of course! From forty foot water slides from roofs to fully operational homemade backyard rollercoasters; some people know no limits when it comes to constructing their own fun! Here are eight of the best homemade theme park rides.

1 Human Slingshot

When you see a giant human homemade slingshot tied to two trees and pulled by a quad bike to get tension to the max on YouTube, there are only two possible outcomes. Either it’s going to end in a disaster or it’s going to look the nuts. Luckily for us; it’s the latter….let’s just hope the rope doesn’t snap! Truly mental, but the world has definitely become a better place from it being built.

2 Kid size 12ft drop PVC roller coaster

This kid has undeniably the best parents ever….they loved her so much that they built her a backyard rollercoaster complete with a twelve foot drop. The kid just can’t get enough! Made entirely from PVC and wood, this special homemade ride made it onto the CNN news in America!

3 40ft Homemade Water Slide

Why build a forty foot water slide for your pool? Simply because you can! And it’s exactly what these guys did.

4 The Blue Flash

The Blue Flash is perhaps the most daring builds out of all the homemade rides. Completely motorised and complete with a loop the loop – the Blue Flash ain’t your run-of-the-mill piece of handiwork! Apparently the loop the loop took many months of ‘trial and error’ to perfect…whatever that means! You can definitely guess that it was a ‘pain’ to make!

5 Homemade Ferris Wheel

Not the most exhilarating of theme park rides, but one for the romantics and the kids. However, what is most impressive about the ride is that it was constructed by a granddad! Just when you thought old people were only good at moaning and knitting, one legend of an OAP constructs his own Ferris wheel!

6 Ron’s Slip & Slide Extravaganza

When the parents are away on holiday, there is only one logical thing to do….construct your very own mammoth waterslide! These young lads construct a fantastic ride which would definitely get shut down in any theme park on health & safety regulations. Well done guys, well done.

7 Backyard Waterslide of DOOM

What’s better than one waterslide? Two waterslides intersecting each other of course! A ten foot jump and a loop the loop all in one waterslide; it’s what dreams are made of!

8 Human Slingshot Slip and Slide

Getting catapulted into a massive lake in the middle of nowhere? Doesn’t sound like your everyday theme park ride does it…because it’s even better! The amount of fun that was had on this day measures at astronomical levels.

All of this goes to show that with a little DIY and a taste for the dangerous…concocting fantastic rides of your own may be easier than you think. So instead of handing over fifty quid at Thorpe Park, why not get creative in your own back yard?

We’d like to thank today’s author Matt from Alton Breaks for this list. What do you think? Would you love to go on one of these rides?
