Yah, Sleepy Hollow was on TV tonight. It reminded me about how f*cking great an actor Johnny Depp actually is. Which is why, ofcourse, I thoiught about summing up my favourite movies starring this remarkable actor.
Come to think of it, it would be cool if I posted more of these Top 10 Movies Starring (…) in the future: thus, a new AllYouNeedIsLists Category was born
Wow, and all this happening live whilst typing!

1. The Ninth Gate (1999)
For some reason when I hear the name Johnny Depp, I think of this movie. I guess this title, among others in this list, is perfectly suited for Depp and only Depp.
2. Edward Scissorhands (1990)
Creepy and very dramatic, awesome!
3. Donnie Brasco (1997)
Entirely different from the first two in this list, but also an unbeatable performance of both Johnny Depp and, in this case, Al Pacino.
4. Blow (2001)
Great story, based on the true life of George “Boston George” Jung, one of the biggest drug smugglers of all time.
5. Sleepy Hollow (1999)
Another eerie, fairy-tale-like thriller with the pwnage-combination Tim Burton – Johnny Depp. No matter what the hell any story is about: if Burton directs it and Depp acts, you’ve got a winner formula. This is not the first Burton flick good Johnny has done: Ed Wood (1994) was their first collaboration.
6. Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas (1998)
Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas on IMDB
Filming on steroids! Just watching 10 minutes of this legend gets you tripping and wanting more. A must-see for any self-respecting movie-fanatic.
7. Pirates Of The Carribean 1 (2003), 2 (2006) and 3 (2007)
This is probably how the “younger” generation will see Johnny Depp these days: a drunk, queer-ish, pirate. Loads of action and laughs in this incredibly well-marketed franchise. Although this isn’t the type of movie that I think suits Depp, it definitly cannot be ignored in his Top 10 list.
8. Finding Neverland (2004)
The “true” story about how J.M. Barrie came up with the famous Peter Pan tale.
9. Secret Window (2004)
I love Stephen King books. This is most definitly one of the best King stories converted to film.
10. Charlie And The Chocolate Factory (2005)
Charlie And The Chocolate Factory on IMDB
One of the most famous tales ever told, perfectly done by this fine actor. No surprise that this hit-title is another Tim Burton – Johnny Depp collaboration.
Runners-up
This being a Top 10, it wouldn’t be logical to go on and list my other favourites. But there are a couple of titles that just need to be mentioned, which are certainly not less awesome than numbers 1 through 10:
in chronological order
- What’s Eating Gilbert Grape (1993)
- From Hell (2001)
- Corpse Bride (animation, but still Depp/Burton) (2005)
- Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)
And last, but probably certainly not least: Alice In Wonderland (2010). Once released and once I’ve seen it I would dare to guess it will make at least the top 3 of my list of Johnny Depp movies. In light of this oncoming release I can’t keep myself from showing you the absolutely wicked trailer:
Thanks for reading and ofcourse don’t hessitate to share your opinion if you don’t agree! Every input will be much appreciated.
